Bloodborne Pathogens Training

To comply with state training mandates for Law Enforcement officers, the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy is offering this two-hour course on Bloodborne Pathogens.

The program will address:

  • OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and review of three most common bloodborne pathogens placing law enforcement at risk: Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.
  • Understanding the mode of transmission, helps reinforce the utilization of Universal Precautions, vaccination recommendations and prompt reporting of any occupational exposures. The program will address what constitutes an exposure and available treatments in the event of exposure with special attention to issues specific to law enforcement, such as crime scene safety.
  • Confidentiality factors regarding individuals incarcerated and co-workers, as it relates to bloodborne diseases.

This program is presented in cooperation with Atlantic Health Systems by Susan Calcara, R.N. - HIV Clinical Education Coordinator.
