FIREARMS INSTRUCTORS COURSE

Pre-requisites:
- Successful completion of a basic firearms course and proficiency with weapons.
- Candidates must achieve an average score of 95% or better during three (3) consecutive pre-qualifying runs of the HQC1 in the morning of the first day of class to be admitted into the course.
- Candidates must also achieve a score of 80% or better in the NHQC and safely handle their firearms throughout the course to successfully complete the course.
This five (5)-day Police Training Commission approved course teaches the fundamentals of firearms instruction, including range safety, weapons procedures and range operation. Law enforcement officers who require certification by the Police Training Commission as firearms instructors or officers who will conduct in-service firearms training and qualify their department personnel should attend.
Successful completion fulfills one of the five requirements for certification as a Police Training Commission Firearms Instructor to instruct in the Academy's Basic Course for Police Officers.
Required Equipment:
- Range glasses
- Hearing protection
- Baseball style hat
- 30 rounds rifle slug ammunition (for those agencies using slug ammunition)
- 50 rounds 00 Buck
- Department Weapon – Department Shotgun – Duty Holster
- 1,200 rounds of Factory Loaded Ammunition, Service Ammunition
- (Revolver users – 2 speed loaders and Semi automatic users – 3 magazines)
Weapons must be checked by the department
armorer prior to the course to ensure their safe condition.
NOTE: A Firearms Verification Form MUST ACCOMPANY THE REGISTRATION FORM.
Class size is limited to 30
