PROPERTY AND EVIDENCE MANAGEMENT
This half day seminar is designed for persons who are responsible for overseeing their department's property or evidence rooms, and individuals who are assigned to the evidence function. The purpose of class is to provide consistent training to all Morris County law enforcement on standard evidence storage and destruction procedures. It is also a useful course for individuals who have been in the evidence function for some time and would like new ideas to improve their property and evidence function.
Topics to be covered during this program include: (1) audits and inventories; (2) facility design and requirements; (3)storage issues; (4) packaging and labeling; (5) paper vs. computerized evidence systems and bar codes; (6) chain of custody; (7) evidence destruction, disposal, purging; (8) policies and procedures; (9) issues related to money, weapons, controlled substances, biohazards, and found property. Particular attention will be placed on the Morris County uniform destruction of evidence form and policies regarding the destruction of firearms and controlled dangerous substances will be included.
