DRUG-INDUCED DEATH INVESTIGATION

This course will involve a practical analysis of situations confronted by first responders regarding drug-induced deaths and the possibility of any prosecution for strict-liability homicide prosecutions. The course will address the issues facing first responders regarding the permissible boundaries of searches and an analysis of when a first aid call may evolve into a criminal investigation and the subsequent impact on the responder and his/her actions. The course will also discuss the requirements of the criminal law for a strict liability prosecution, as well as other issues related to the recognition of specific types of drug-induced deaths. Recommended for patrol officers and detectives.
