Alternate Route

The Morris County Public Safety Training Academy has been approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission to participate in the program entitled ALTERNATE ROUTE BASIC COURSE FOR POLICE OFFICERS.

This program is designed to give individuals interested in becoming police officers the opportunity to attend a police training academy, at their own expense, prior to being hired by a police department.

Anyone who meets the following requirements is eligible for consideration for the ALTERNATE ROUTE BASIC COURSE FOR POLICE OFFICERS.

The selection process for the July 2009 and January 2010 classes has been completed.  Please check our Web site the end of September or beginning of October for more information and dates for registration and the entrance exam for selection in the July 2010 and January 2011 Basic Police Classes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

AGE   Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and no older than 35 by the completion of the program.
EDUCATION   Candidates must have completed a minimum of 60 college credits or 2 years of active military service or a combination of the two. must bring a copy of DD214 as proof of military service.
RESIDENCY   Candidates must be U.S. citizens and residents of Morris, Sussex or Warren Counties.
BACKGROUND   Candidates must be of good moral character, and not have been convicted of any criminal offense involving moral turpitude.
MEDICAL   Candidates must be sound in body and of good health sufficient to participate in the physical training program.

SELECTION CRITERIA
The selection process consists of a written examination, physical agility test, comprehensive background investigation, oral interviews, medical and psychological examinations and drug testing through urinalysis.
