he staff of the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy is pleased to present our 2008 schedule of courses. We believe these courses address the needs of the Morris County Fire and Emergency Services community, as well as the many out of county departments who use our Academy.
he year 2007 was very busy and productive for the Fire Division. The Fire Fighter 1 course demand remained high with eight classes being offered (two of them were Junior classes) graduating 248 firefighters. The Junior course which was increased to 150 hours and included the fire simulation classes, was a success. The students as well as the departments feel this is a win / win situation which we will continue in 2008. The Academy will continue to offer courses that support Executive Order # 50 NIMS compliant training. We will continue to offer both regular courses at the Academy as well as Outreach courses held at the local fire departments. These outreach courses are designed to expand the training opportunities for the fire and emergency services community at a convenient location.
he Fire Fighter 1 courses will include an Orientation night / day where the recruits receive their course materials. The course is reviewed, Fire Department Customs and Courtesies are reviewed and the students are given all the information needed to attend classes at the Fire Academy. It is encouraged that the Chief, designee or the Training Officer attend to hear what is expected of the recruits.
he courses offered by the Fire Division for 2008 are designed to provide quality training that is consistent with the standards set by the NJ Division of Fire Safety and the National Integration Center. New courses will be designed to meet the new training standards which will be put into effect in 2008. The courses with new standards for 2008 are Fire Fighter 2, FAST/RIT, Incident Safety Officer, and Managing the May Day.
he Academy will continue to be the site for seminars, training programs and courses for the Fire Service. Programs and courses coordinated by the NJ Division of Fire Safety as well as other state, county and national agencies and organizations, continue to be well attended.
inally, I am pleased to report that during 2007 we conducted 513 live fire drills on the training grounds which included Class A as well as other fire evolutions. We will continue to utilize the fire grounds by creating additional scenarios. Our capabilities have increased with the new Fire Apparatus Training Facility which opened in October 2007.
