INTERNATIONAL TRAINING LIFE SUPPORT
16.0 Continuing Education Credits (Elective)

This course will give the student the knowledge and hands-on skills to take better care of trauma patients. ITLS stresses rapid assessment, appropriate intervention and identification of immediate life threats. The ITLS framework for rapid, appropriate and effective trauma care is a global standard that works in any situation.

ITLS courses combine classroom learning and hands-On skills stations. They also challenge the student with scenario assessment stations where learning is put to work in simulated trauma situations. ITLS courses are designed, managed and delivered by course directions, coordinators and instructors experienced in EMS, pre-hospital care and the ITLS approach.

PEDIATRIC EDUCATION FOR PREHOSPITAL PROFESSIONALS (PEPP)
8.0 Continuing Education Credits (Elective)

Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) is a one-day educational program developed specifically for BLS providers by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The program specifically addresses the following areas:
  • pediatric assessment
  • management of pediatric respiratory, cardiovascular, and medical emergencies
  • management of pediatric trauma
  • emergency delivery and newborn stabilization
  • children with special healthcare needs
  • SIDS
  • child maltreatment
  • medicolegal considerations

This program mixes video footage and lectures with hands-on skills to provide the student with a well-rounded understanding of the management of the pediatric patient.

In developing the PEPP course recommendations, the National PEPP Steering Committee carefully reviewed the most current data on the efficacy, safety, and feasibility of pediatric prehospital interventions. Where scientific research is not definitive, the recommendations derive from expert opinion and clinical experience in hospitals, emergency departments, and pediatric ambulatory setting. The PEPP Course emphasizes careful assessment and BLS care, and supports prudent use of ALS interventions.

The PEPP Course is a dynamic teaching tool that will be subject to ongoing review and modification, in concert with changes in the science of emergency pediatrics and advances in EMS educational design and methodology.
